EWH welcomes international interns Edinburgh World Heritage has welcomed two interns, at the Brandenburg Technical University in Cottbus, Germany.
Julia Aufinger and Wanyi Chen, are two Masters students, studying on the university’s World Heritage Studies programme, which is supported by UNESCO.
Julia is focusing her internship on heritage management and monitoring. In particular she is developing a database of historic buildings with the World Heritage Site, gives the address, listing, and brief description of problems and the urgency of action required. The idea is that this will enable EWH to target its grant giving more effectively in future. The wider experience she will also play a part in writing her thesis on the German World Heritage Site of Regensburg.
Wanyi is a teacher from Taiwan, and her internship is looking at heritage education. As well as with assisting school projects and conducting historical research, she is helping to develop an outreach programme. Wanyi said: “We are trying to encourage a ‘missing’ heritage audience, promoting awareness and understanding for those who either don’t know or find access difficult.”
