New Learning Space for the Museum of Edinburgh
In a new joint project between EWH and the City of Edinburgh Council, a learning space will be created at the Museum of Edinburgh to enable families and school groups to discover more about the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site.
The new facility will include an area for art activities, computers for visitors to access museum collections, replica costume for children to try on and a family activity trail around the museum’s exhibitions. Edinburgh school children will also get involved by designing banners which will decorate the room.
As well as encouraging families to visit, it is planned to use the new facility as a venue for school trips. The museum has many unique exhibits, such as the original version of James Craig’s New Town plan, which along with the new resources, can be used to explain the development of the city to primary and secondary school pupils.
It is hoped to open the new learning space to the public in June, along with a programme of family activities, as part of the Old Town Festival.
