Teachers advise on World Heritage education
Teachers from two Edinburgh primary schools spent a work placement with EWH at the end of October, advising on a future World Heritage education project.
Forrest Howie of Sciennes Primary and Anne Houliston of Fort Primary in Leith joined EWH as part of an EEBL (Excellence in Education through Business Links) initiative, which aims to increase contact between the two sectors.
During their placement the teachers visited the Museum of Edinburgh, the Edinburgh Room in Central Library and the City Archives, investigating possible resources and the feasibility of making a school trip to the Old and New Towns.
They proposed a project which would compare the two areas of the city, with site visits based at the Museum of Edinburgh and the EWH offices in Charlotte Square. Resources such as photographs, prints, maps and documents could be made available via a website, which would allow teachers to use them directly in classroom on white boards.
Discussions with the city’s museums, libraries and archives are on-going, with the aim of piloting a resource for schools next summer.
