Historic Home Guides
Edinburgh World Heritage has launched a new series of Historic Home Guides, aimed at giving advice specifically for owners of listed buildings within the World Heritage Site. The first editions in the series focus on ironmongery and exterior paintwork.
The guide to external paintwork covers everything from windows and doors, to balconies, railings and common stairs. Advice is also given on how to find further information and where permission is needed to make changes.
The ironmongery version includes fixtures and fittings such as hinges, door handles and locks. Often these details were tailor made for the building, and as such are significant, but easily over-looked, original features.
