Bienvenue and farewell

New interns and volunteers are helping with EWH projects.

Mar 30, 2011

As March began EWH welcomed Astrid Dumas who joins us for a six month internship. Astrid has a Bachelor’s degree in the History of Art from Lyon University and is currently pursuing a Masters in Cultural Heritage in St Etienne at the Université Jean Monnet.

Particularly interested in urban heritage, Astrid was keen to work in a World Heritage Site and Edinburgh was recommended by a friend. She looks forward to exploring Edinburgh’s heritage, savouring the delights of the Festival, and improving her English.

We also say farewell to Emily Hannam who, since October, has been with EWH one day a week on a student work placement as communications assistant. She is pursuing an MA History of Art and Architectural History at Edinburgh University. Her work includes researching a New Town trail, and a ‘Historic Home Owners’ Guide to Roofs’. Her willingness and ability to tackle a wide range of contrasting tasks have made her a great asset to EWH and we wish her well in her future studies.

EWH also uses the services of volunteer workers. Currently Frank McGrail assists with communications, and Moira Willis is helping in the EWH library. As Moira explains, there are many benefits to volunteering:

"I love libraries and love working in libraries, especially ones with really interesting collections. I work just two doors away at No. 3 Charlotte Square so it meant helping a charity in my working community.  I wanted to be useful and gain more experience at the same time, especially for my continuing professional development and possibly chartership."
