Edinburgh most recommended UK World Heritage Site

TripAdvisor survey names Edinburgh most recommended UK World Heritage Site.

Apr 1, 2011

Via its user reviews, TripAdvisor in partnership with UNESCO, has collected over 34,000 responses from travellers who have visited the UK’s UNESCO World Heritage sites. The results show Edinburgh as the most recommended site, above well known attractions such as the Tower of London.

Back in October 2010 another TripAdvisor survey placed Edinburgh as fifth most recommended in a list of 789 World Heritage Sites around the globe. The survey was the largest of its kind, with nearly quarter of a million feedback submissions.

Adam Wilkinson Director of Edinburgh World Heritage said: "It is tremendous news that TripAdvisor travellers rate the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh so highly. Our World Heritage Site offers people a magical experience that cannot be found anywhere else. It also shows how important the conservation of the city's historic buildings is for visitors, which we continue to support through our conservation funding programme.”

Adam continued: “As one of the biggest World Heritage Sites in the UK it is perhaps not suprising that some also found areas in need of attention. Edinburgh's World Heritage Site is also lived in by 20,000 residents and visited by 4 million people every year, which means we face challenges very different to others on the list."
