No.23 the World Heritage Bus

Take a World Heritage bus trip through the Old and New Towns on April 18.

Apr 18, 2011

To celebrate World Heritage Day on April 18, Edinburgh Bus Tours and Lothian Buses, in conjunction with Edinburgh World Heritage, will be bringing Edinburgh alive to those who live and work in the city, with an exclusive and free downloadable Audio Tour which reveals the city’s World Heritage Site – the Old and New Towns, on the Lothian Buses Service 23.

Head tour guide Robert Leslie explains: “There's no better way to find out about a city’s inspiring history than by bus tour. However, for many of those who live in the city, making the time to learn how its past has shaped the city they see today is hard. Life just seems to get in the way. Edinburgh is a majestic city and we wanted to remind residents by launching a free downloadable audio tour for Lothian Buses Service 23 as its route covers both the Old and New Town.

“Our team created a tailor-made audio tour to offer a distinctive and entertaining experience for those wanting to take in the sights on a 23 bus, or for those who would prefer to walk the route.  Simply download to an MP3 or MP3 enabled phone and enjoy.”

Adam Wilkinson Director of Edinburgh World Heritage said: "We are delighted that Lothian Buses have joined in to celebrate World Heritage Day, as simply taking a ride on the No.23 is one of the best ways of seeing the city's World Heritage Site.

"You can appreciate the extraordinary landscape that the city is built on, as the bus climbs up Dundas Street in the New Town or drops down the Mound. You also gain unique views of historic buildings such as Heriot's and the Central Library, seeing detail that is easy to miss from the ground."
