Would you like to befriend Hillside Crescent?

The Friends of Hillside and Calton area want to increase the profile of their regeneration project.

Jun 22, 2011

Hillside Crescent Gardens are an important green space greeting visitors and commuters as they arrive in Edinburgh city centre. The Friends Group are looking for volunteers with expertise in building and maintaining a web site to help them achieve their aim of regenerating the space.

The garden was designed by the famous architect William Playfair as an ornamental feature with fine planting and a central fountain surrounded by his signature railings.

Friends of Hillside and Calton and local residents have been active in the revitalisation of green spaces in the area and attention is now focused firmly on Hillside Crescent.

The aspiration is to commission a new piece of Public Art as a central feature, new seating, planting with a sensory element and the return of Playfair’s railings.

With the help of Edinburgh World Heritage and City of Edinburgh Council who provided expert advice and grants a plan has been commissioned for public consultation.

The website will provide information on progress, be an effective consultation tool and attract interest in the project.

If you would be interested in playing a part in the regeneration of this important public space please contact info@ewht.org.uk.
