War Stories at the Nelson Monument

Celebrate Armed Forces Day 25 June at the Nelson Monument on Calton Hill.

Meet our costumed characters at the Nelson Monument on Calton Hill and take the War Stories trail through the World Heritage Site.

Join us to hear stories of Lord Nelson, the battle of Trafalgar and other tales from Scotland's military past.

11am and 2pm - Meet John Doig, once the youngest sailor to take part in the battle of Trafalgar, and hear about the heroic Lord Nelson.

12pm and 3pm - Tales from the First World War with our British tommy and nurse. See how soldiers were equipped and how the wounded were cared for.

Throughout the day – Design your own naval signal flag to add to our display, and chat to the costumed characters

War Stories trail - pick up a copy of this self-guided trail at the Nelson Monument. The trail will lead you around Edinburgh's World Heritage Site, and discover stories from Scotland's military past on the way. Complete the trail's quiz as you go and you could win a prize. Available from the Nelson Monument 10.30am - 4.00pm
