Caddie Capers
Thursday 16 and Friday 17 February
Performances at 11am and 2pm - each lasts 45 minutes. Suitable for all the family.
Join Macastory for some ‘enlightening’ storytelling, songs and fun as we celebrate Edinburgh’s Enlightenment!
Hear tales of characters such as David Hume who made Edinburgh the place to be at the end of the 1700s… Then you’ll have a chance to join in the debate as the greatest scientific minds of the age try to pull the wool over your eyes with a ‘Select Society’ special event: ‘The Great Scientific Truth or Blethers Quiz!’. See if eminent figures of the age, such as Hutton & Watt, can fool you with their tales of science fact or science fiction! Family story fun for everyone, celebrating the dawn of the modern scientific age!
Mrs Doig's City of Genius
Saturday 18 February
Performances at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm - each lasts 30 minutes. Suitable for all the family.
An invitation to join Georgian housewife Mrs Doig, as she reveals the gossip about life in the New Town and the characters of Enlightenment Edinburgh.
Then discover the essential etiquette required for mixing with the great scientists and philosophers, perhaps at one of David Hume's famous dinners. What is the correct way to climb aboard your carriage or drink your tea? Mrs Doig is here to help smooth your way through Edinburgh society.
