Edinburgh case study for urban regeneration

EWH has been awarded funding from the Leonardo Programme for a joint project with Warsaw, Prague, Vilnius and Vienna.

Jul 20, 2012

The Leonardo Programme is part of the European Union’s Lifelong Learning Programme. It supports UK vocational education and training organisations, staff and learners to work together with European partners to improve training, skills and employability.

The two year project aims to establish standards for vocational training in urban regeneration, by producing a guidance manual based on the experience of the partner cities.

The experience of the partnership is particularly valuable as they all include World Heritage Sites, and as such have management plans bringing together the many different aspects of urban regeneration.

Initially, partners will exchange their knowledge in a wide area of topics including heritage management, community engagement financial aspects of regeneration projects, GIS analysis, sustainable development and urban conservation methods.

In the second year of the project, the partners will develop a guidance manual which will be translated into their native language. The manual will present case studies from each partner, illustrating good practice and demonstrating how these could apply in other places.

It is hoped that the manual will form the basis for vocational training programmes in urban regeneration, for each of the countries represented in the partnership.

The project is being co-ordinated by Krzysztof Jan Chuchra, Urban Analyst for Edinburgh World Heritage. For more details contact Krzysztof - 0131 220 7720, krzysztof@ewht.org.uk
