Memorial Service for Professor Charles McKean

A Memorial Service will be held for Charles McKean on Saturday 30th November in Dundee.

Nov 1, 2013

The service will be held in Dundee Parish Church (St Mary’s), Nethergate, Dundee DD1 4DG, at 12:00pm, Saturday 30th November.

Professor Charles McKean was chairman of Edinburgh World Heritage from August 2006 - September 2012. Charles passed away on 29 September this year. Adam Wilkinson, Director of EWH, wrote an appreciation of Charles in October's Director's Notes:

"This ability to think through all the different angles of a question was one of the tremendous strengths Charles brought to EWH, ensuring rigour in the board’s decision making processes and the rationale behind the team’s activities. The routes this questioning took were frequently novel, often amusing and yet somehow always ended up in the right place, a sort of intellectual magic trick. This magic was most evident in Charles’ lectures – ebullient, stimulating and provocative." Read more

In 2008 Charles recorded a series of podcasts for EWH, discussing some of the city's public spaces. They capture his enthusiasm for Edinburgh and his extensive knowledge of its architectural history.
