Royal Mile Community Day

Saturday 8 February 10am – 4pm, at the Tron Kirk, High Street.

Feb 4, 2014

The Royal Mile Community drop-in day will be an opportunity to catch up with the project team, and find out how the Royal Mile Action Plan is progressing.

EWH will be holding community mapping workshops in the morning and afternoon, recording the sights, sounds and smells that make up people’s experience of the Royal Mile. Artist Hannah Rye will be on hand all day, sketching a map and incorporating everyone’s views, to form a community map of the Royal Mile at the end of the day.

There will also be an opportunity to find out more about the Edinburgh Graveyard Project, which is looking to gather volunteers to help conserve and promote the graveyards at Greyfriars Kirk, Old and New Calton burying grounds, Canongate Kirk and St Cuthbert’s.

There will also be an opportunity to:

•    Find out about and get involved in the wonderful range of other projects, activities and attractions on and around the street;

•    Find out about community grants;

•    Watch the painting of a giant mural depicting a Tron Kirk hogmanay;

•    Have the opportunity to be one of the faces painted into the mural;

•    Listen to stories about the Royal Mile;

•    Enjoy the kids corner with traditional toys, colouring competition and more;

•    Find out about future plans for the Tron Kirk and other fascinating local buildings.
