Finding funds for Edinburgh's heritage

Lorna Duncan has joined the EWH staff as Development Manager.

Jun 27, 2014

Her role will focus on the fundraising strategy, helping to raise funds towards EWH projects throughout the Old and New Towns. Donations from individuals, businesses and charitable trusts have become increasingly important to deliver projects, from the repair of historic buildings and monuments, to delivering learning programmes for visitors and schools, and improving the streetscape. The recent Twelve Monuments Restoration Project is a good example, where £300,000 was raised from a variety of private sources.

Lorna brings enormous experience to the role, having extensive experience as a fundraising professional. Her most recent appointments were Major Gifts Manager for the Abbotsford Trust and Director of Development for the Edinburgh Academy. Here Lorna successfully completed a £4.5m fundraising project to build a new science centre.

Between 2003 – 5 she held the post of Head of Fundraising at the Royal Scottish Corporation, a London based charity helping Scots in need of care in the capital. Lorna was also Regional Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, and has worked with small charities such as Queen Victoria School, Castle Toward Trust, SVGCA and Dyslexia Scotland.

Lorna said: “For someone born in Edinburgh, it is a great privilege to return to play a role in an organisation that is so crucial in celebrating the city's past and preserving it for the future. I'm looking forward to meeting with as many of our supporters as possible, as we start to build an even wider circle of Friends all of whom are so crucial to our ongoing success. If you would like to be more involved in our fundraising efforts then please do give me a call.”
