Lawnmarket

A view looking down the Lawnmarket to St. Giles' Cathedral from around 1820.

At this time the Old Town had already changed greatly, but was still a place of bustle and noise. The stalls in the foreground are selling the cloth and linen that gave the area its name. In the background is the steeple of the Tron Kirk, the High Street, and the coast line of East Lothian.
