In the last financial year, EWH spent £1.1 million on conservation projects benefiting over 170 households and organisations.

This initial public investment acts as a catalyst for levering in funds from other private sources such as property owners, donations, grants and sponsorship. In 2009-10 this amounted to an extra £6.1 million spent on conserving the World Heritage Site.

In other words:

•    For every £1 from the City of Edinburgh Council, we lever in a further £6.

•    For every £1 from Historic Scotland, we lever in an additional £4.

The Nelson Monument project was a particular success, attracting significant positive media coverage for the city, and leading to Visit Scotland upgrading the building to a four-star visitor attraction.

EWH thanks the City of Edinburgh Council and the Scottish Government through Historic Scotland for their ongoing support of our work, and also those private donors who have supported our projects throughout the year, helping make the funds we receive go further.
